Sculptural Knitting
During my MFA studies at the Swedish School of Textiles, I focused on expanding my knitted work into three-dimensional sculptures using industrial knitting technology. This advancement project marked an important milestone in my artistic exploration, opening my horizon up to new possibilities for what knitting can be and become.
At the root of my practice is craft. I explore the essence of knitting, questioning its possibilities, limitations, and potential to transform into something beyond its traditional form.
My aim was to find more effective ways to stiffen my pieces, develop three-dimensional structures, and scale up my work. Each piece became an experiment in itself, allowing me to focus on specific challenges and discover new approaches to material, form, and structure.
The resulting works take the form of textile art, sculptural structures, and wall hangings. They are inspired by Icelandic nature, my knitting heritage, and personal experiences, bringing together traditional craft and industrial technology to explore new dimensions of knitted textiles.
